CCIAC Women SW1 Champions

After a hard-fought game on Saturday evening against a tough Red-Deer Titans team, the Irish ladies senior Division 1 team came out victorious by a score of 45-24, putting the game to bed with a flurry of tries in the last 10 minutes. This came after the ladies enjoyed the lion’s share of possession and territory for most of the game, wearing their opponents down in a physical and tiring game in the heavy evening heat. After managing to go unbeaten in all competitive games this season, this most recent victory caps off an incredible season.

Huge congratulations to the all of the ladies involved throughout the season, along with their coaching team. It is a massive achievement that began with the re-introduction of the women’s program 4 years ago and with a young and talented squad, the ladies are looking forward to more success in the coming years.

Well done ladies,

Season Announcements

Welcome back for another season of great rugby at ‘The Irish.’

We are happy to announce Stephen Thomas as the new Men’s Head Coach. Steve brings a wealth of experience from both playing and coaching at a professional level across the world, which will be invaluable as the club pushes for strong performances across all divisions this year. Steve will be conducting a pre-season strength, fitness and conditioning program in the ‘Athlete Development Centre’ in Calgary. Further details available from info@calgaryirishrugby.com. The program will aim to develop strength and fitness in key, rugby-specific areas in order to hit the ground running for the start of  this season. This program is open to both men and women. Get in touch if you are interested!

St. Patrick’s Day Tournament

Our annual St. Patrick’s day touch rugby tournament will be played on March 18th at the club. Before you ask, yes there will most likely be snow on the fields and yes it will still go ahead! Hoping to have another great day at the club to kick off the season. Have a look at the facebook event page for further details. Beer, prizes and beer-prizes!
